01  Position Summary

We’re looking for a Creative Director who thinks in full-brand systems: the structural curve of a compact, the foil stamp on a launch collection, the way a product looks in a retailer fixture and feels in a Reels frame on the same day.
This is a hybrid vision + execution role. You will partner directly with our VP of Marketing and Creative leadership to translate brand positioning into a cohesive design language that lives everywhere: packaging, ecommerce, retail, paid media, and organic social. You bring structure to the creative system and soul to every execution -- and you know that those two things aren’t in tension.
The ideal candidate is a master at their craft in packaging and print, a confident systems thinker across digital, and someone who knows how to translate fun, playful, sensorial brand language into design that turns heads and earns obsession. When the brief says feel-good, juicy, or obsession-worthy, you don’t ask what that means -- you already know, and you know how to make it real in 3D.
This is a fast-moving, commercially-driven creative environment. We are not a slow-twitch studio. Launches move quickly, and the ability to flex across multiple projects simultaneously is a must. If you thrive at that pace, you’ll love it here.
02  Responsibilities

  • Brand Design System. Own the ColourPop visual language end to end -- packaging, digital, print, retail, and paid. Define how the brand shows up across every surface and develop and maintain design guidelines that ensure consistency across all touchpoints.
  • Packaging Design Excellence. Lead structural and graphic design for all product packaging -- from concept through production-ready files. This is your home base. You understand materials, finishes, dielines, and vendor relationships, and you bring that mastery to every launch.
  • Vision Translation. Partner with the Head of Marketing and Creative leadership to turn brand strategy and product positioning into a clear, ownable creative direction. You make the brief visual. You make the visual obsession-worthy.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration. Work closely with product development, copywriting, and studio teams to develop and execute creative concepts that are on-brand, on-brief, and built to live across channels.
  • Omnichannel Execution. Ensure design integrity across every channel -- DTC ecommerce, Ulta, Target, retail fixtures, paid digital, organic social. A launch should feel like one thing, everywhere.
  • Campaign & Launch Creative. Drive the creative direction for key franchise and innovation launches. Collaborate with marketing on concept-to-shelf execution -- from hero imagery and campaign visual language to in-store displays and digital assets.
  • Performance Creative. Bring a feel for what works in paid: scroll-stopping static, motion design concepts, creative that converts. You don’t need to be a performance marketer, but you understand that great creative also drives results.
  • Team Leadership. Lead and manage a team of three graphic designers -- providing direction, guidance, and daily support. Review and approve all design work, maintaining non-negotiable standards of quality and creativity. Build a culture where craft matters and ideas are celebrated.
  • Creative Operations. Manage multiple projects simultaneously, working closely with the Creative Services team and Project Manager to ensure timely delivery -- including proper review by brand leadership during weekly creative reviews.
  • Multi-Hat Mentality. You don’t clock out at the edge of your job description. When something needs to get done, you do it -- and you’re energized by the range, not depleted by it. Creative direction, vendor call, asset review, brief rewrite: all in a day.
03  Requirements

  • Experience. 8+ years of design experience with a significant focus on packaging -- beauty, personal care, or consumer goods -- including at least 3 years in a creative lead or director role managing a team.
  • Portfolio. A strong body of work demonstrating packaging mastery, brand design range, and creative vision -- from concept through production-ready execution. We want to see the full arc: the idea, the craft, and the final shelf-ready product.
  • Packaging Mastery. Deep expertise in structural and graphic packaging design -- materials, finishes, dielines, and vendor relationships. You understand how a product is made as well as how it looks.
  • Systems Thinking. You design in systems, not one-offs. You understand brand architecture and can hold a cohesive design language across product lines, retail environments, and digital channels simultaneously.
  • Digital Fluency. Strong command of digital design for ecommerce, paid media, and social. You know the difference between a homepage hero and a TikTok cut-down, and you can art-direct both.
  • Print & Production Knowledge. Deep familiarity with print production -- color management, pre-press, vendor communication, structural dielines, material selection. You don’t just design it; you see it through.
  • Tools Proficiency. Expert-level Adobe Creative Suite and Figma. Comfortable in project management tools. You know your way around the full production pipeline, not just the design files.
  • Creative Leadership. Proven experience leading a creative team -- interpreting and translating feedback to designers in an efficient, actionable way, giving direction that elevates rather than deflates, and building an environment where great work is the standard.
  • Speed Without Sacrifice. You move fast and make it great. You’ve worked in environments where launch calendars don’t slow down for anyone -- and you’ve found a way to protect quality without protecting your process.
  • Communication & Organization. Excellent communication and organizational skills -- you can run a creative review, write a tight brief, manage competing priorities, and keep a team aligned, all without losing sight of the work.
  • Beauty Obsessive. You don’t need to be a beauty expert on day one, but you need to care. You have an opinion about the visual language of the category. You know who’s doing it well and why. You’re excited to make ColourPop the best-looking brand in the aisle.
  • Collaboration-Forward. Comfortable working cross-functionally with marketing, product development, and operations. You’re as effective in a creative review as you are in a vendor call.
04  Who Thrives Here
We have a creatively ambitious, bold, and disruptive team. We launch more, move faster, and operate with a scrappiness that most brands our size have long since designed out of their process. Start-up mentality with the backing of a commercial business. The ideal candidate is just as excited to roll up their sleeves in Figma as they are in vision and ideation.

  • Builder, Not a Maintainer. You’re genuinely excited by the idea of building something iconic -- and energized by ambiguity, not paralyzed by it. We have the commercial foundation of an established business and the creative hunger of a startup. You want both.
  • Wired for Speed. You produce great creative in a fast environment. You don’t need weeks to find your footing on a brief. You know how to get to a strong concept quickly, adapt when feedback comes in, and ship without losing the idea.
  • Creatively Ambitious. You have a genuine creative point of view -- and you hold it loosely enough to make it better. You love a good riff, you build on other people’s ideas as naturally as you generate your own, and you’ve got the self-awareness to know that the best work usually comes from the room, not the corner office. High standards. Low ego. Always in it together.
  • Pro AI. You see AI as a creative accelerator, not a threat to the craft. You use it the way great designers use every tool -- intentionally, creatively, and without ego about it. Whether it’s pushing concepts further, pressure-testing directions, or cutting production time, you’re already building it into how you work.

05  Bonus Points

  • Experience with performance creative -- static ad formats, motion design direction, or creative testing frameworks for paid social and paid search.
  • Experience at in beauty, fashion, or lifestyle brand
  • Motion design experience -- concept through execution, with an eye for how animation elevates brand storytelling across digital and social.
  • 3D design or CGI experience -- product renders, campaign visuals, or immersive digital assets.
